our pastel world
The series Our Pastel World by Benjamin Belovich is a striking exploration of minimalism and human moments captured in vast, pastel-coloured landscapes. his compositions are characterised by vast negative spaces, where the subjects appear as small figures in a large and open environment. This scale differential not only emphasises the beauty of simplicity but also highlights the intimate connection between people and their surroundings. Each artwork seems to depict everyday human interactions, yet the figures are so small that viewers are compelled to focus on the landscape and the atmosphere surrounding them. This approach gives the series a contemplative, almost meditative quality, allowing the viewer to reflect on themes of solitude, human connection, and the tranquility of nature.
this series subtly reflects on themes of human interaction, isolation, and the simplicity of life. In “Looking Over the Edge,” a small group of figures is perched at the top of a vast, flat cliff, with an open sky that stretches endlessly. This work conveys a sense of curiosity and bravery as they gaze into the unknown. In “Catching Up,” two figures sit together in an open yellow field lined with sparse trees, symbolising companionship and conversation in an unhurried, natural setting. “Hide and Seek with Evelyn” features his own little girl hiding behind a minimalist structure, invoking her childhood innocence and playful solitude. The series as a whole encourages the viewer to appreciate the beauty in quiet moments and to see the subtle charm in human interactions and nature’s vastness.
